Shooting at the dark
Sometimes it just pays to trust your instinct that if you keep shooting in an area that you know is inhabited by at least one absurdly cute baby orangutan, you will get at least one keeper. I took this photograph at the Denver Zoo. But this scene was playing out a good distance away and largely unseen by myself or the crowd around me, primarily due to how back lit they were up there. I could see the little bugger jumping around and playing with his mother, but I really couldn’t discern anything in particular. And of course the viewfinder wasn’t much help given the level of backlighting. So I was pleasantly surprised to find a good bit of the detail intact in the image above when I got home with the raws. And while I may not have completely intended to take the above image. I absolutely love it.
